The idea for Shoofly Design, Inc. began in 1989. At that time, Lisa Schulist, Designer & Owner, was an art student at the prestigious private art school The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her BFA in 1991. In addition to attending classes, Lisa worked part-time as a freelance designer for an upscale children's boutique in an affluent North Shore suburb of metro Chicago. There, she designed and produced hand-painted apparel and baby shoes.
Upon graduation from art school, Lisa began her career as a graphic designer, and later, also worked as an Art Director, Web Designer and Illustrator for various high profile companies. Lisa's interest in starting-up Shoofly Design, Inc. grew out of a desire to create objects that allowed her to use a real paint brush again, in addition to the digital paint brush she had been accustomed to working with via the computer. After much research and planning, Lisa has identified a niche market for children's footwear that allows for fun, unique designs that are not available on a mass-produced scale.
“As I expand the business, one of my goals with Shoofly Design, Inc. is to help moms by providing them with a flexible work-at-home job opportunity. If the very positive response I have received from the recent ‘help wanted’ ads I had placed is any indication, there is definitely a need for legitimate work opportunities for women wanting to be at home with their kids, while at the same time earning money to help support their families.
